Ty Strayline led a balanced attack with a goal and four assists and Ryan Kelly made an astounding 22 saves Tuesday as visiting Central Bucks South defeated Kennett, 10-4, for its first District 1 boys’ lacrosse victory in school history.

The 17th-seeded Titans (14-5) will play at top-seeded Radnor Thursday in the second round. Kennett, the 16th seed, closes at 12-7.

Brendan McGrath added a goal and three assists while Willie Pendleton, Jake Henze (five groundballs) and Tom DiBrino each scored twice. Tim McCrudden (9gb) and Conner Bechtel (8gb) paced the defense

For Kennett, Brady O’Neill had two goals and an assist and Kevin McQuiston scored twice.

After Kennett came back to make it 3-2 at the end of the first quarter, CB South added a second quarter tally and then broke the game open with three in the period to take a commanding 7-2 lead.

CB South’s defense and goaltending was standout as long-poles Tim Ross and Kevin Witchey helped the Titans wreak havoc and kept the Kennett shooters constantly off balance, allowing Kelly to post his season high in saves. With his 22 saves, Naval Academy bound goalie Ryan Kelly has passed the 800 career save milestone.

Midfielders Brandon Jacobsen and AJ Caputo also contributed to the defensive effort, which shut down several Blue Demon man-up opportunities and caused numerous turnovers throughout the game.

In avenging their only non-league loss of the season, a 9-8 defeat in their opener at Kennett, CB South has now tied the program’s highest win total of 14 victories, last attained in 2007.
